The open day will provide attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at Victoria’s thoroughbred racing industry bsaed at Southside Pakenham. The afternoon will include guided stable tours at several leading Melbourne racing stables, providing an opportunity to see how racehorses are trained, cared for and prepared for racing.
The experience will then continue at Southside Pakenham from 5pm, where attendees can enjoy a night of live thoroughbred racing. All open day participants will receive free General Admission tickets to the race meeting.
Southside Racing operates thoroughbred racing and training facilities at Cranbourne and Pakenham. On a typical day, the sites accommodate thoroughbred horse training, including trackwork, stable operations and the movement of horses, trainers and stable staff throughout the precinct.
Activities also include racecourse and training track maintenance, administration, equine facilities and general site operations. On scheduled race days, the sites host thoroughbred race meetings involving horses, trainers, jockeys, officials, staff, contractors and patrons, along with hospitality and event operations.
Children attending will have the opportunity to see racehorses up close during the stable tours, learn about how horses are cared for and trained, and experience the racing industry behind the scenes.
At Southside Pakenham, families can enjoy live horse racing and a range of family-friendly activities and entertainment, providing an engaging introduction to racing for children and young people.
A range of food and beverage options will be available for purchase at the Southside Pakenham race meeting. Food will not be provided during the afternoon stable tours.
Please park in the racecourse car park on arrival. From there, you will be met and guided to the participating stables for the stable tours.
For coffee or lunch before the stable tours, Tynong and nearby Garfield offer a number of local cafés and eateries, all within a short drive of Southside Pakenham. Popular options include Granite Café in Tynong, along with cafés and the Garfield Hotel in nearby Garfield.
