The EGRC DNA tests all Thoroughbreds before they can be registered as racehorses. We also do general horse genetic testing, as well as a small amount of testing for infectious diseases in horses (like COVID testing, but for horses). Our staff are also involved in other research projects that support horse health, production and welfare.

What to expect

There will be a behind the scenes tour of the genetics laboratory hosted by the Director of the EGRC. She will outline what goes on in a commercial genetics testing laboratory, as well as explain the role of Racing Australia and the EGRC in upholding the integrity of the Thoroughbred breed and industry. She will also discuss other research projects that is being done by members of the lab.
