Mares & Foals: Meet our broodmares and their young foals in a relaxed paddock setting.
Yearling Exercise: Observe our sales yearlings being exercised and prepared for upcoming auctions (morning sessions only).
Q&A Session: An open question-and-answer session with our team, offering insights into thoroughbred breeding, care, and sales preparation.
What's On in the Hunter Valley during National Thoroughbred Week:
Newgate Farm is dedicated to breeding and raising elite thoroughbreds with a strong focus on quality care and horse welfare.
Our daily routine includes:
Feeding: All horses are fed twice daily—morning and evening—with nutrition tailored to individual needs.
Health Monitoring: Each horse is checked daily for any signs of illness or injury, with prompt care provided when necessary.
Farrier Care: Our experienced farrier team attends to all horses on a monthly basis to ensure optimal hoof health.
Routine Treatments: Horses are regularly treated for worms and internal parasites as part of our preventative health program.
Seasonal Tasks: The remainder of each day’s work varies with the season, reflecting the natural rhythms of breeding, foaling, sales preparation, and spelling.
Whilst every effort is made to accommodate young children, please note that Newgate Farm is a working property. The safety of our staff, horses, and visitors is paramount.
We kindly ask that children are supervised at all times and that all guests follow the guidance of our team during the visit.
Light refreshments are provided, including tea, coffee, juice, water, and a selection of cakes and slices.
