Since its establishment in 1864, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) has been instrumental in the development of Australian and Victorian racing and is now the world’s largest member-based racing club with more than 34,000 members. As custodians of Flemington Racecourse, the VRC host the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Australia’s pre-eminent sporting and cultural event which attracted more than 285,000 visitors across the four race days in 2024. While a racing event at its core, the Carnival transcends traditional sporting events with its unique combination of sport, fashion, entertainment, hospitality and business and provided an uplift in national expenditure directly attributed to Cup Week of more than $1 billion in 2024.

What to expect

The Victorian Racing Club welcomes you to a tour of the heritage listed Flemington racecourse. Highlights include history of the VRC, Flemington Racecourse and Melbourne Cup. The tour culminates in the mounting yard where you will meet group one racehorse Hartnell, learn about VRCs Equine Wellbeing and Educaton initiatives. (light refreshments, tea and coffee provided)

Note: Participants will be required to walk approximately one kilometer over the course of the tour.

Please meet at the Pharlap statue at the Flemington Racecourse main entrance.
