During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of our racehorses, our sale yearlings, our beautiful mares and foals, and you will get to see the farm operating at full swing. From routine veterinary care of mares to the parading of yearlings and working with cattle — including weighing and moving them across the property — you’ll get an authentic look at our daily operations.
We’ll walk you through our farm protocols, explain how we care for both our animals and staff, and share insights into our breeding programme and racing team. You'll gain a deeper understanding of what makes the thoroughbred industry so captivating — and why so many become passionate about it.
By the time you leave, we hope you’ll carry with you a true sense of what we do, the essence of the thoroughbred world, and the vital role it plays in New Zealand’s economy.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Welcome to Elsdon Park, a private thoroughbred breeding operation dedicated to the development, sale, and enjoyment of elite racehorses.
Established in 2022 by Lib and Katrina Petagna, Elsdon Park is based in the heartland of New Zealand’s famed horse country, with the Waikato-based farm embodying 600 acres of pristine rolling and flat pasture.
While you're on site, enjoy a sausage sizzle and refreshments.
Parking is available at 165B Buckland Road, Matamata, New Zealand.
The world-famous Hobbiton Movie Set is just a couple of minutes up the road from us. If you’re feeling peckish and would like something more substantial than the on-site sausage sizzle, the Café at Hobbiton is a great place to relax and enjoy a delicious bite to eat — no booking required for the café.
The town of Matamata is just a short 10-minute drive from Elsdon Park and offers a great selection of cafes and eateries.
Some of our local favourites include:
The Redoubt Bar and Eatery
Osteria
Pepper Street Kitchen
